EXTRACT
"Abstraction and figuration are complementary. Figuration, for me, is the abstraction of the obvious. The reference points are clearly seen in figuration. My type of abstraction has more to do with expressing my sense of the world in a non-literal way. It is an attempt at synthesis, a search for a more complete kind of image. Intelligence is deeper and more diverse than literal interpretations allow. The mysterious levels of the mind are registered in abstraction. I mean more than intuition. I mean actually knowing with your full senses, sight, touch, etc. as well as your intellect. Sometimes I have a definite image or idea from which I am working. The image may come as a natural progression from another work, or I may seek to develop a new idea, but in either process I rate observation highly, and I observe in different ways. I take photos, I draw, I read. I collect found objects and have them around me. It is a filtering process which is difficult to explain."
