This simple clothbound book with 20 colour images documents the artist’s last exhibition in Ireland. The work is divided into three series, each prefaced by an extract based on the event which inspired them. The first contains powerful images based on the Great Famine of 1845-49; the second, entitled Sunday, portrays the suffering and bewilderment experienced by a Northern Irish community during what has become known as Bloody Sunday; and the third series is a delightful homage to Charlie Brady based on his admiration of two of Farrell’s paintings.

In The Wounded Wonder, Farrell is fiercely engaged with issues raised by the Great Famine and Bloody Sunday. His anger is palpable and immediate. It is almost as if he had just tuned into CNN and seen the Famine reported as a breaking story. — Aidan Dunne, Irish Times Micheal Farrell provides food for thought with his strongly narrative and politically inspired works. — Marianne Hartigan, Sunday Tribune
