In 2006, over ninety works of art, mostly paintings and original prints, were transferred to the ownership of the State by the Dublin Airport Authority (as owner of the GSH Group), and presented by the Government to the Crawford Art Gallery to mark the Crawford Gallery’s new status as a National Cultural Institution. Known as the Great Southern Art Collection, these works span the years between 1947 and 1974, four extremely significant  decades in the development of the visual arts in Ireland. The book features work by 30 Irish artists, with individual texts on each artist and their work.
